What you can do
- Turn the rectangle to show that 7 × 6 = 6 × 7.
- Cut the rectangle by dragging along its edge: the calculation shows the distributive law, e.g. 7 × 6 = 7 × 5 + 7 × 1.
- Split both factors by place value: (20 + 3) × (10 + 4) = 200 + 80 + 30 + 12, next to the written method with each line coloured like a strip of the rectangle.
- Divide by building columns: each step takes away some columns, and at the end you see the quotient and the remainder.
- Choose squares or dots, hide the answer to set a task and download a PNG.
